River Oaks Country Club had only four individuals serve in the Director of Tennis role since the club’s founding in 1923. When hiring their next Director of Tennis, the club selected Mark McMahon to work with the Search Committee to identify the right individual to become only the club’s fifth tennis professional in almost 100 years. McMahon worked with COO / General Manager Joe Bendy, CCM and the Search Committee to assess the evolving needs of the membership, define the skills, experience and personality needed to align with the club’s comprehensive tennis program and evolving racquet sports program.
PINEHURST COUNTRY CLUB - DIRECTOR OF RACQUET SPORTS
Pinehurst Country Club wanted to broaden it’s racquet sport offerings and enhance an already exceptionally active tennis program. When the time arrived to hire a new Director, the club retained McMahon to assess its current program offerings and develop a profile for a role that would be quite different than the previous Director. When planning for the expanded responsibilities for the new Director, the club’s General Manager / COO also wanted to be confident that the compensation package for the new Director would be both competitive and in alignment with the club’s goals of growing specific components of the program. McMahon was not only able to provide expert consultation on best-practice compensation, but worked with the General Manager to develop a position profile and compensation package that resulted in attracting an amazing slate of candidates, and an offer being extended to a nationally recognized and awarded professional in approximately 6 weeks.
THE STANWICH CLUB - GREENWICH, CT - DIRECTOR OF RACQUET SPORTS
The Stanwich Club was originally chartered in 1962 with the golf course opening for play in July 1964. The Stanwich Club Racquets Program evolved over the years to become recognized as one of the best in the state.
McMahon worked closely with the General Manager and Search Team to validate the expectations and program priorities for the new professional, identify the best candidate, and establish a new employment agreement. The new professional oversees an active and energetic year-round program which provides members with a range of tennis and paddle offerings including leagues, tournaments and social play, as well as instructional programs which encompass private and group lessons, clinics and cardio-focused drills.
GREENWICH COUNTRY CLUB - GREENWICH, CT - DIRECTOR OF RACQUETS
One of the oldest private country clubs in the United States, Greenwich Country Club remains a prestigious club with a great history. With their membership growing stronger with young families and a high interest in tennis and paddle tennis, the club retained McMahon to lead it's search for a Director of Racquets. McMahon offered the search team guidance on the restructuring of a more competitive and performance based compensation package before attracting a pool of outstanding candidates.
Greenwich Country Club delivers a robust year-round racquets program which includes tennis; indoor tennis (bubble); platform tennis and squash that is one of the most active and successful in the Tri-State area.
ST. LOUIS COUNTRY CLUB - ST. LOUIS, MO - DIRECTOR OF RACQUETS
A storied club with a fine history of high athletic performance, St Louis Country Club has a great tradition in tennis and golf with Dwight Davis (founder of the Davis Cup) being a founding member of the club, and the club having been host to one US Open and two US Amateur Golf tournaments.
After the very successful 32-year tenure of the club's previous professional, the General Manager engaged McMahon to support the Search Committee through their selection process. The engagement included consultation by McMahon with a broad cross-section of club stakeholders, which surfaced a variety of viewpoints, priorities and expectations before the Position Profile was finalized. The club considered the merits of hiring a Tennis Director or Director of Racquets and McMahon provided counsel on specific responsibilities and a competitive compensation package for the new professional.
NORTHWOOD CLUB, DALLAS, TX - DIRECTOR OF TENNIS
McMahon worked with the General Manager and Director of Tennis of Northwood Country Club to review program offerings, measure member satisfaction, explore growth opportunities, study pricing and re-evaluate compensation. McMahon completed a comparative local club program survey and established a revised operating plan for the tennis program which resulted in an increase in participation - and revenues for the department.
WEE BURN COUNTRY CLUB - DARIEN, CT - DIRECTOR OF TENNIS
With two physical tennis locations with a total of 13 tennis courts the Wee Burn Country Club began their search for a new Director of Tennis with McMahon facilitating a half-day, in-depth program review and goal-setting session with the Search Committee. The session was designed and facilitated by McMahon to help the committee and general manager assess the club's existing program - and to set goals and project how the program should evolve into the future.
The outcome of the search under McMahon's guidance was the hiring of an accomplished professional who was ideally positioned in his career, and who had the appropriate and relevant experience, to take the club's tennis program to the next level.
