Purpose and Objective: The Director will manage all Tennis and Paddle Tennis activities, events, tournaments and lessons as well as a professional staff, while maintaining proactive and enthusiastic engagement with members to support these programs.

Essential Job Requirements and Skills: Key Requirements and Characteristics of the Director of Tennis & Platform Tennis include the following:

  • Supervise all Tennis and Paddle Tennis play.

  • Provide first class tennis instruction for all groups and levels of players.

  • Select, supervise and train personnel such as assistant professionals and shop personnel in performance of their duties.

  • Ensure assistant Tennis pros are providing the highest level of lessons and nurturing a Team approach.

  • Oversee the coordination of HGC summer camp activities as they relate to the Tennis program.

  • Operate and maintain a pro shop featuring quality merchandise and services.

  • Enthusiastically encourage tennis and paddle participation by planning events to promote the sport and fellowship.

  • Responsible for the overall management and supervision of all fees originating from the tennis facility.

  • Represent the club in professional tennis and paddle activities, including meetings of the national and/or local division of USPTA and in tournaments, as well as state or national events as time will permit.

  • Enforce the club’s rules and regulations governing the use of the facility.

  • Inspect the courts daily to ensure the necessary maintenance and upkeep is being performed; and communicate with the General Manager about the condition of the facilities and equipment for the purposes of budgeting for replacement and repair.

  • Liaison with committee chairs and other HGC Department Heads.

  • The Head Tennis and Paddle Tennis Professional reports directly to the GM/COO of the Club.

Qualifications:

  1. USPTA, PTR & PPTA at the highest Levels.

  2. 5-7 years experience teaching tennis and 3-5 years teaching platform tennis.

  3. Completitive tennis & paddle playing experience.

  4. College Degree preferred.

  5. Proven track record of accountability and integrity.

  6. Excellent organization, communication and member service skills.

  7. All applicants must be US citizens or qualified to work in the US.

Compensation & Benefits: Full-Time Salaried position, salary based on credentials and experience, plus Lessons and Pro Shop revenues. Full-Time benefits as provided to all Management staff of The Hartford Golf Club.
